Writing over Speaking

Put it in writing clearly and comprehensively, and you’ll have no explanation to do later (except to refer to it).

Communication is my life and writing, the bedrock of my existence.

Of the two major modes of verbal communication — speaking and writing, I prefer the latter (writing) for three key reasons: First, it removes the element of confrontation and defensiveness that characterizes verbal dialogue. Second, writing enables one to put all his thoughts across fully without interruption. And third, the text is always available for reference in case anyone wants to twist whatever one has said for malicious purposes.

A bit more on point one: Many people are generally defensive, and once they get a feeling (real or perceived) that a certain communication is seeking to push their comfort zone, they get unsettled and begin to interrupt the other person speaking… Not even an apology and explanation that what one is saying is harmless and not borne out of ill-will satisfies them. Once they don’t like the size of your nose, they must attack everything that comes from your mouth. That makes oral communication very difficult sometimes.

Writing indeed is the window to my soul; door to my escapism; and meaning to my purpose. It is the foundation of my spirituality and connection with nature. I am doomed and purposeless without pen and paper.
