“Control your excitement about the payment of salary arrears” teachers advise themselves

The salary validation window for public sector workers for November opened earlier today with links shared across various social media platforms.

While the opening of the validation window itself for this month was no news to teachers across the country, the payment of the Teachers Continuous Professional Development (CPD) allowance for 2022, and the refund of 100 cedis that was wrongfully deducted from last year’s payment has generated mixed feelings and lots of talk.

The CPD allowance is to take up the cost of Continuous Professional Development for teachers each year. Since the payment of the allowance began, the convention has been to have it accumulated and paid in November. Opinions on this mode of payment are sharply divided with many pushing for the allowance to be paid monthly to avoid surprises at the end of each year.

Bloggers are making a meal of the news of the payment of this years accumulated CPD allowances. Many teachers have been thrown into a state of wild jubilation with many of them that are active on social media busy pushing the news from one social media platform to another.

Some teachers are however, not happy with the inability of some of their colleagues to remain calm whenever their salaries and or entitlements have been paid. “Stop jumping from one platform to the other announcing the payment of allowances or salaries in arrears. Uncontrolled excitement about the payment of any money due us is an embarrassment. There are people in this country harvesting huge sums of money yet they don’t make noise. Sika ‘mpe dede!” Someone declared on a WhatsApp platform.
